Hoefkwartier

The ambition is to turn the Hoefkwartier into a place where living, working and learning come together in a new green and sustainable public space

Over the coming years, the Hoefkwartier in Amersfoort will be transformed from an office environment into a lively urban district. Between 3,500 and 4,000 new homes will be built here, alongside existing educational institutions and workplaces. The ambition is to turn the Hoefkwartier into a place where living, working and learning come together in a new green and sustainable public space.

At the heart of the neighbourhood lies the Hoefpark: a spacious and lush park that offers space for biodiversity, sports and socialising. The park will be landscaped with a mix of large trees, shrubs and herb-rich zones. In addition to places for rest and ecology, the Hoefpark also offers active areas where various sports can be practised, such as basketball, football, skating and calisthenics. Sports and play areas are incorporated into the landscape and form the central meeting places in the neighbourhood. The park paths connect to the surrounding streets and merge into the station square at Schothorst station.

Green unless

Greening is central to the public space, with the principle of “green unless” taking precedence. Following the principle, greening is taken as starting point of the vision and paving is only used where necessary, in this way the neighbourhood is as green as possible. New and existing developments are connected by a network of green streets and public spaces, such as streets and squares, are designed as shared spaces with a focus on pedestrians and cyclists. Car parks and mobility hubs ensure efficient and car-free streets, where pedestrians and greening are given space. This creates pleasant places for residents and visitors and also strengthens ecological networks.

A green oasis for people and animals, contributing to health and climate.

The design of the neighbourhood focuses on sustainability, biodiversity and ecology. With the planting of varied and robust vegetation, including trees, shrubs and herbs, the Hoefkwartier will become a green oasis for people and animals, contributing to health and climate. Rainwater is collected in the lowered planting areas, which provides cooling but also creates interesting ecological conditions. The new ecological corridor makes an important contribution to biodiversity, Waterways, banks and spacious planting areas give flora and fauna the space to move through the neighbourhood.
